What will you learn and do?
In the Kool Kids Grow program, students dive into every aspect of agriculture, learning how plants and people grow together. Through hands-on gardening and food systems lessons, they plant, transplant, and care for crops while discovering how soil, water, sunlight, and pollinators work in harmony. They learn to safely use garden tools, practice composting, and explore sustainability before harvesting vegetables and herbs they’ve nurtured themselves.
In nutrition and healthy eating sessions, kids compare fresh and processed foods, build balanced meals using MyPlate, taste-test their garden produce, and create simple recipes like salads, wraps, and smoothies—all while connecting good food to energy, focus, and overall well-being. The garden also becomes a living science lab where they apply STEAM skills, measuring growth, recording data, observing weather and ecosystems, and using art and technology to document their work.
Through youth entrepreneurship, students follow the “seed to sale” journey, designing products, learning pricing and budgeting, and practicing customer service at youth markets to understand how business can support their education goals. Beyond the garden, they’re introduced to college, careers, and scholarships in agriculture, environmental science, culinary arts, and business, while guest speakers inspire them to dream big.
Finally, every student grows as a leader and team member, taking on shared garden responsibilities, leading tours, participating in community events, setting goals, and reflecting on how their work helps both themselves and their communities bloom.

Your support helps us turn every garden bed, lesson, and idea into a life-changing experience for our students at Deerwood Academy. Whether you give supplies or sponsor a learning activity, every contribution plants the seeds for stronger minds, healthier bodies, and brighter futures.
